Settings
In the Settings section you can change the Quiz Title, LMS Output and the Frames Per Slide.

LMS Output: This is the LMS (Learning Management System) option drop-down menu. You have the choice to add LMS output to your quiz.

Quiz Creator supports:

SCORM:
Scorm (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) is a collection of standards and specifications for web-based e-learning. It defines communications between client side content and a host system called the run-time environment (commonly a function of a learning management system). SCORM is a specification of the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative.

  • Scorm 1.2: Scorm 1.2 was the first version with a real conformance test in the form of a test suite. It uses the IMS Content Packaging specification with full content manifest and support for metadata describing the course. It also allows optional detailed metadata tagging of the content objects and assets described in the manifest.
  • Scorm 2004: Scorm 2004 is the current version that is based on new IEEE standards for API and content object-to-runtime environment communication. It includes the ability to specify adaptive sequencing of activities that use the content objects and the ability to share and use information about success status for multiple learning objectives or competencies across content objects and across courses for the same learner within the same learning management system. It also has a more robust test suite.
  • AICC: The Aviation Industry Computer Based Training Committee (AICC) standard dates to 1988, and has been used as a standard for Computer Based Training since that time. While it was created by the Aviation industry, it has always been intended for use across all industries.

Both SCORM and AICC allow Learning Management Systems to support a diverse set of content. Virtually all LMS platforms support one or both of these standards.

Default frames per slide: Here you can choose the number of frames each slide of the quiz will occupy. The default is 10 frames which should be fine for most applications.

Template
The template section holds the templates available for creating a quiz. You can use one of the existing templates, or you can edit a copy of any of these quiz templates to create a new quiz template. (You cannot edit, delete, rename or change any of the standard, default templates that come with Quiz Creator. All changes must be made to a copy, which then becomes a new template.) Choose a template of your choice.
If you want to create a custom template click the Edit a Copy button.

From the Customize Template page you can customize your quiz by changing styles, colors, fonts, size, background the way the quiz works and the features that are displayed. Click the Save button to save your customized quiz.

For a complete description of each feature in the Customize Template window see the help file.

If you wish to edit the standard quiz template text that is used for the panel and other controls within your quiz, select the "Edit Text" button. This opens the Customize Template Strings window where you can change the text. This is especially useful if you are creating foreign language quizzes.

Creating a Quiz
Once you have decided on your template you click "Next" which takes you to the “Create Questions” window.

To insert a question click the Add button.
This will add the text "New Question" to the Question List and to the Question field.

The Type dropdown list allows you to choose between the four question types available.

Multiple Choice - multiple selection: This option allows you to enter in a multiple choice answer that has multiple correct answers.

Multiple Choice - single selection: This option allows you to enter in a multiple choice answer that has a single correct answer.

True - False: This option allows you to enter in an answer that is either true or false.

Fill in the Blank: This option allows you to enter in an answer that the quiz taker must enter to get a correct answer. The answer is not case sensitive.

In the Question filed enter in your question.

If your question is multiple choice, to create the answers for your question, click the Add button in the “Choices” field. When you click “Add” the text “New Answer” will be added to the list. You click on this text to type in the answer you wish to add. If you are using multiple choice, check the box (or boxes if you have multiple correct answers) of the correct answer.

If you select True/False as the question type you select whether the correct answer is true or false.
If you select “Fill in the blank” as the question type you can enter in as many correct answers as you wish. When a user answers a fill in the blank question, the quiz will not factor in capitalization, punctuation or trailing and leading spaces to determine if an answer is correct.
To add additional questions click the Add button in the Questions List section.

You may combine different question types in the same quiz.

You may edit any question and its corresponding answers at any time by clicking on it in the Question List. You may also reorder questions by dragging them up or down in the list.

When you are satisfied with all your quiz questions and answers, click the Next button.

Exporting options

Now that you have created a quiz you can export your project. Quiz Creator has many export options that are covered in the help file.

To export your quiz click the Export button.
The Quiz Creator Settings window will open. The Output field is where you specify the name and path of the Flash SWF you are outputting. You may also select "Browse", which launches a File dialog box, to set the output filename and path.

Once a path and filename is selected, you may click the "Play" button next to the "Browse" button to view the Flash SWF file if it already exists.

Quiz Creator will also output Windows, Macintosh & Linux projector files. These can be very useful for deploying your Quiz Creator output on CD and for other methods of offline distribution. Projector files contain the Flash SWF output and player together, so you can be certain that the viewer does not need any additional players to view the files.

In the SWF tab of the Quiz Creator Settings window you can specify a number of Flash SWF options such as preloaders, compression, variables, etc.

In the HTML tab of the Quiz Creator Settings window you can choose to export an HTML file to play your quiz and there are a number of other options related to the use of HTML.

Publishing Your Quiz

Quiz Creator will export all the files you need to distribute your project.

Base files required

For people to view your project you will need at least the project output SWF that you created

HTML file to post your project on the Internet

If you wish to post your project on the Internet you may want to export:

  • an HTML file which you can export from the HTML tab of the settings window
  • the .js active content fix file to be included with the HTML file (which alleviates any Flash problems in IE browsers)

Projectors for standalone distribution and CD-ROMS

If you wish to distribute your project as a standalone projector (which is perfect for CDs) you will want to export one or more of the Windows, Mac and Linux projectors available from the Settings window. Projectors contain both your output and the Flash player.

Files required for LMS

  • If you have set your output to use SCORM or AICC, the output HTML file will have additional code automatically added to it.
  • If you use AICC an additional folder labeled "Scripts" will be created in your project folder. This "scripts" folder will have 2 files cmi.js and behCourseBuilder.js. To use AICC you must also include this folder with your output.

Saving and Opening Quizzes

You may want to save your Quiz settings. By selecting File>Save Settings or File>Save Settings As, you can save a .wqz file which will have all the settings that are set in the Quiz Creator interface.

In addition, the basic elements of your quiz output are stored in the output SWF file. If you have not saved a settings file, you can restore the questions and answers you have created by using the File>Import SWF Settings option.
