| Introduction |
|
| The following tutorial briefly describes how to capture content from a video device into an AVI file (even if you want to later convert to Flash SWF, you should first capture to AVI and then use the video, audio, image importer to convert real-life video and audio into Flash SWF. |

| Getting started |
|
| Open WildPresenter and at the start screen click "Create New Project." We will label this project, "Device Capture". |

| Your WildPresenter program will now open. |

| You are ready to capture from device. |

| Opening the Recoding Utility |
|
Open the Recording utility (Menu: Record>Record). |
|

Note: The recording utility has a feature that turns off your computer’s hardware acceleration prior to recording and then turns it back on when recording is done. This is done to improve recording quality. You may see your screen flash when starting the recording utility. This is normal, so don’t worry about it.
Go to the Setup tab. |

Either use the existing Filename or set your own by clicking the "Browse" button.
Check "Add timestamp to filename" if you would like the recording utility to add the current timestamp to the filename (to prevent accidental overwriting of content) |

| Customizing your recording |
|
The recording utility can record to various formats: SWF, AVI, JPEG and to the clipboard. However, only SWF files will be placed directly on the WildPresenter timeline. If you use AVI, JPEG or the clipboard, you will need to import those files into WildPresenter after creating them.
As mentioned above, when using device capture you will obtain the best quality (both image quality and performance) by capturing to uncompressed AVI and then importing the video or audio you have created into WildPresenter and using the video, audio, image importer to encode the file into Flash SWF.
Select one of the AVI presets from the preset drop-down list. The higher the quality the better your screen capture will look, but the larger the file size will be. You may want to start off with "AVI Uncompressed High Quality" preset and see how it works for you. |

| If you do not want to capture audio, uncheck the "Capture Audio" checkbox. |

| Go to the Encoding tab. |

Select the device you wish to capture from using the "Video Source" dropdown list.
If you want to capture sound:
Check "Input enabled".
All the available audio sources should appear in the "Audio source" drop down list (including your sound card and any microphones or other audio devices attached to your computer). Select the audio source you wish to use. Select "Stereo Mix" as "Audio Input".
Adjust the Volume Slider.
When doing device capture, the Screen Tab will be disabled.
Note: If you are using more than one monitor, WildPresenter will record only from the default monitor, so be sure to place whatever you wish to record on the default monitor.
To start recording, click on the "Start" button. If you have checked the option "Go to tray on capture start" (Setup tab), the recording utility will automatically minimize. To stop capturing, click on the recording utility icon in the system tray |
