A
very powerful feature of Wild
FX Flash Text Animator is the ability to
create your own effects templates, using the
included custom effects as a base. This feature
lets you easily create your own effects without
having to know Flash. And it’s really easy.
This tutorial will show you how to customize
your own effects using Wild FX’s easy customizable
effects templates. We will be starting with a
SWF that we used in the Create
Flash Banners in Minutes with Wild FX 3.0 tutorial.
We will start with this file, CreateYourOwnBanner.swf:
and
change the effect so that the banner looks like
this:
First
I am going to retrieve the work created in the
Create Flash Banners in Minutes with Wild FX
3.0 tutorial. In the File Menu I select Open
Settings and select “CreateYourOwnBanner.sfx”.
I can also click the open settings icon in the
menu, .
Notice that the text, the font, the effect, and
other settings are saved. A Wild FX settings
file saves all settings in the Wild FX UI that
are set at the time of saving.
(If you did not read the Create Flash Banners
in Minutes with Wild FX 3.0 tutorial, simply
enter some new text into the text field, select
an output file name, and select the effect “Flow
In” from the Custom Effects folder.)
To
change the settings on the custom effect, go
to the Customize Tab. Notice that the “Flow
In” effect has four parameters that may
be customized.
Here are the parameters that the original “Flow
In” effect has.
First
I want to change the Scale Speed, which is currently
set at a value of 20. The Parameter Description
box describes the meaning of each parameter and
the scale of its value (in this case 1-100).
I want to make my effect as fast as possible,
so I will change the value of the Scale Speed
from 20 to 100. To do so, I click on the parameter
I want to select and enter the value I want in
the Value box. Then I click the Update button.
Don’t forget to click the update button
or the change you make won’t be saved.
Note: If
at any time I want to restore the parameter to
its original value, I can click the “Restore” button.
Any changes you make to a custom effect will
remain until you close and re-open the program,
at which point the settings will revert to the
original settings. If you want to save your new
custom settings, you need to save them in a new
effect.
Next I am going to change the Parameter “Start
Scale Factor” which the Parameter Description
tells me is “the initial size for each
letter before they uncompress.” The original
value is 3 and I am going to change it to 20.
Then I am going to change the Parameter startX,
which has an original value of –20, to
a value of 2
Finally I am going to change the Parameter startY,
which has an original value of –20 to a
value of 2.
To
save your custom effect click the “Save
As New Effect” which will bring up the
Save as New Effect box with the original name
of the effect and the original Filename of the
effect
I
am going to change the Effect Name to “Flow
In - Customized” and the Effect Filename
to FlowIn_Customized.swf. Then I click “Save”.
Notice that the new “Flow In – Customized” effect
is now listed in the Effects window.
If
the effect does not appear, you can click the “Reload” button
at the top of the effects library.
Before
I export my file I am going to name my output
file in the main Menu tab. I will rename the
file to ”CreateYourOwnEffect.swf” and
then click the “Export SWF Button”.
Wild
FX comes with 45 customizable effects, which
you can easily change to suit your needs. They
offer great opportunities for creating unique
signature effects with very little effort.
