Understanding Preloader Bars
Contents
Top
Introduction
This preloader tutorial is for people who are ready to start exploring actionScript. It walks you through creating a preloader bar that will work with any Flash movie. In the process, we'll touch on variables, conditionals (if statements), loops, dynamic text fields, functions and movie clip properties. All the source code is commented and a copy is downloadable at the end of the tutorial. Aside from the functionality you get out of the preloader bar, there's a logical approach where we turn english into actionScript that can be applied to much larger projects. It may be a lot for a scripting newbie, but it's (hopefully) well-illustrated and explained in enough detail to be useful.
